Step 1:To use genuine HP ink cartridges

   Ascertain that you use genuine HP Officejet 5740 ink cartridges and if necessary,  select your country/region. Proceed to the next step to check for ink smears.

   If you find that there are smears of ink on the back of your printouts, you can use an automated tool to resolve this HP Officejet 5740 Printer issue. Follow the on-screen instructions and try to print. If the print quality is unacceptable, you can proceed to the next step.


Step 2:To use the appropriate paper for your print job

   Mount the paper print side down in the input tray and ensure that you do not use wrinkled or curled paper.

   Ensure that you do not replace cartridges for vertical streaks in a printout and after checking the paper, try to print again.

   If you find that the print quality is unacceptable, you can proceed to the next step.

   

Step 3:To check the print settings

   You can check the print settings to make sure that they are appropriate for your print job.

   Also, check the estimated ink levels by tapping the Ink icon on the printer’s control panel.

   You can replace any low or empty ink cartridges, if necessary. Print a Print Quality Diagnostic report to evaluate the results.
