  1. The first step that must check when your printer stops printing black ink is, to check if the printing option has set to grey scale.
  2. Turn off your HP Officejet Pro 6960 printer and remove the ink cartridges. Verify the ink level of the black cartridge and confirm that it is not dried out.
  3. Check if there are smears on the back of your printouts as it could be an issue with the printhead sometimes.
